Fuji X-Pro1 vs Fuji X-E1: cue buyer’s remorse?

This week, I take to video to discuss the announcement of the Fuji X-E1 and what it means for people like me who bought the X-Pro1.

Basically, unless you completely love the optical viewfinder of the X-Pro1, the X-E1 looks fantastic: lighter, smaller, cheaper, with a better EVF, stereo mic in and a small pop-up flash. With the same great sensor and processor.

Yeah, but you forgot about the deal Fuji has – buy an XPro, and get $300 USD off each lens you buy with it. Admittedly this is a temporary deal, however Fuji would be wise to continue discounting the XPro-1 somehow.

Compare that to the Leicas, whose family motto seems to be “discount NOTHING ! NOTHING !!”.

Also I have a nagging feeling that the other shoe hasn’t dropped, but will sometime during PhotoKina.

The X-E1 is a godsend to those who could care less about Fuji’s hybrid viewfinders. For me, I love shooting outdoors, and at sunset/sunrise, so I pretty much have to have something – even the X10’s rudimentary viewfinder is better than nothing.

Hahahaha, we take your money already! We never listen to customers, we not care. We also not give Q menu to X-100 owners! Why? Because we not care hahahaha!

Can’t help thinking looking at the specs that the X-E1 is really a downgraded X-pro1. I think I’ll wait for an X-pro2 with an optical viewfinder.

@sgoldswo – I see the X-E1 as more side-graded than down-graded (think I just made up a word there, but you get the idea). Aside from the lack of the the OVF and a slightly weaker LCD on the back, it seems as good (or better) than the X-Pro1 – same processor, same sensor, better EVF, mic in port, flash. So not better or worse necessarily, just different.

If you love the OVF, then obviously it’s not as good for you, but for other folks it might be better, even if it wasn’t a fair bit cheaper.
